What is a brand?
A brand is whatever comes to mind when someone thinks about your company. It is all the thoughts, images, emotions and experiences that clients connect with your business.
A good way to simplify this concept is to think of your brand as a person, if your brand was a person, what would he/she be like? Is he/she serious, fun, traditional, modern, funky, hip, cool, uptight, trustworthy, reliable, successful…etc.
If you provide accounting services for example, you probably don’t want to be viewed as laid back and dreamy, you will more likely want to be viewed as reliable and trustworthy. If you’re a designer, you would want to be viewed as creative, open minded and fun.

Is a logo a brand?
No. A logo is not a brand, it is only a visual representation of the brand, but also an important part of it. The brand always comes first, and the logo is the simplest visual form to represent that brand, if the brand doesn’t evoke specific emotions with their consumers, it is unlikely that the logo ever will.
A great brand deserves a great logo and great graphic design and visuals. It can make the difference when the customer is choosing between two great brands. But these alone cannot make your brand great.
